Stop Trying to Reinvent the Wheel

See this content in the original post

Lately, as I steer through the waves of my 6-week challenge with a spirited group, a phrase softly echoes in the corners of my thoughts - “don’t reinvent the wheel.” A simple yet profound string of words that dance with the tune of basic, timeless truths. 🌿

The desire for a structured meal plan, the quest for novel ideas, a search for ways to “biohack” one’s way out of the basics, brings me back to the need to focus more on the basics. Regardless of where we find ourselves on the spectrum of fitness, the basics cradle the essence of our journey. And until you’ve learned & performed the basics, you can’t go about breaking the rules until then. 🛤️

From the fresh-eyed beginner to the seasoned hybrid athlete, here’s a common thread that remains true for losing body fat, getting stronger, & building muscle:

1️⃣ Consistent strength training: 3-4x week.

2️⃣ Adequate protein intake: 100g minimum or 1g per pound of body weight

3️⃣ Sleep: 7-9 hours per night

4️⃣ Daily steps for active living: 8-10k+

5️⃣ Mindful calorie deficit: 250-500 calorie deficit per day

6️⃣ Varied, enjoyable nutrition: have your snacks & favorite foods built in while still getting in those whole & nutritious foods.

The TL:DR version of this: there’s no need to reinvent the wheel when the path is clear. The essence lies in embracing a sustainable journey, one where tacos 🌮 (happy #tacotuesday) can coexist with your fitness goals. Figure out a way to do the basics consistently while crafting in a routine that resonates with you and not being bound to a rigid regimen that doesn’t suit you. If you’re not here, find a way to ease into it while aiming for this goal. 🌈🚀

This shouldn’t be a season of when it’s a good time for you, it should become a lifestyle…a routine. And remember this, it’ll be hard initially just as with any new habit, but over many months & years, it’ll get so much easier, & you’ll feel your absolute best. You got this! 🫂
