The Importance of Small Decisions
For many, we do not see the importance of small decisions. We do not look at the bigger picture to see all of those small decisions joined as one.
This is exactly what small decisions built upon one another create. When all of those small decisions are all small unhealthy decisions, a plague of bad decisions is created. All of those decisions, good or bad, create a ripple effect and each begins to build on one another. What we do not realize is that one small decision we make each day has a greater impact on our future than we think.
That one small decision over many days turns into years. Those years turn into decisions we make to not be physically active, smoke more, eat poorly, drink heavily, sleepless, sit more, etc. Those decisions build & build & build over many years to the point where one becomes overweight, lacks self-confidence, becomes depressed, & finds themselves wondering how he or she got into such a place.
What we do not realize is that all of this does not take place in just one day. It is the multiple days that turn into years that have built upon one another over time.
Good or poor, the small decisions we make may not make a difference in that one instance, but when repeated daily can lead to large ripple effects.
After making those small decisions for many years, we now decide we want to make a change. We want to live a healthy and happy life. The issue at hand is that we are a society that wants results immediately & who wants the path of least resistance.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way. Developing healthy behaviors requires the same process as it took for one to develop unhealthy behaviors.
Instead of making that one small unhealthy decision, what if we decide to make it a healthy one? What happens when we make that one small healthy decision once per day for a week? A month? A year? Over time, the ripples become larger in circumference from the hundreds & hundreds of healthy decisions we make in a year.
Remember, good or poor, the small decisions we make may not make a difference in that one instance, but when repeated daily can lead to great rewards.
